Why Still was born

The idea is simple really. There’s noise all around us. Technology, work, stress, horns, ambition, unfulfilled dreams and desires. All of this plays havoc with our heads, leading to stress, diseases, heart attacks, etc. To leave everything behind and go off to an ashram and spend our life there isn’t doable. So what is then? How do we stay where we are, but also learn to ignore the noise and be still?

Still’s Golden Circle

THE WHY

To guide you towards a quieter mind

In a fast-paced world filled with noise and distractions, the mind often becomes cluttered and restless. Still recognizes the innate need for mental clarity and calm in people's lives. This mental state helps one discover strength in stillness, find clarity in purpose, and achieve single-minded focus to get things done.

THE HOW

By helping you build a daily habit of pranayama

Pranayama, an ancient yogic practice of breath control, has been a pathway to a quiet and meditative mind for centuries. However, the absence of clear guidance, coupled with the struggle to form new habits, has often kept it out of daily routines. At Still, we simplify this path, making pranayama practice an accessible and seamless addition to your day-to-day life, turning an age-old wisdom into a nourishing daily habit.

THE WHAT

A minimal and intuitive app that embraces silence

Still's app is an embodiment of the traditional approach to Pranayama, focusing on a singular routine that is honed consistently in solitude and advances only when preparation meets readiness. It's designed for those who seek both structure and support in their journey toward stillness and clarity.

About Aastha

Deciding how much to share in a website bio is always a bit of a challenge. A formal-resume style seems insincere, and as someone inclined to overshare, I aim for a slight filter. I'll make an effort to share what might be relevant to my work here at Still.

My roots lie in New Delhi, where I pursued Commerce at Lady Shri Ram College—an all-women space that liberated me in multiple ways. For as long as I can remember, I've been craving a sense of 'freedom', though I wasn't sure what that really meant. I dabbled into diverse spaces, starting my journey at a policy think tank called ICRIER, moving on to leading treks and expeditions both in India and abroad, and then spending over a year building Young India Foundation as Co-founder. Eventually, after all the experimentation, I found that 'freedom' while undergoing various kinds of trainings in traditional Indian ashrams. (Here’s my LinkedIn).

I dived deeper into my yoga journey, I trained at Sivananda, one of India's oldest yoga school, and earned an M.Y (Master of Yoga) while continuing my 8 year long journey as a practitioner. I also studied the major classical texts of this ancient wisdom including the Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipka & extensive literature on the science of breathwork. I noticed that today's world of yoga, influenced heavily by the west, was far from keeping the traditions and principles of the ancient yogic system intact. Yoga, primarily a logical and systematic approach to still the mind, seemed to have shifted its focus to the physical aspects.

During Covid, I started teaching friends and family, and one thing led to another. After teaching over a 1000 students, both online and offline, I felt inspired to start Still. Still isn't just a project; it's an extension of my heart and soul. After my daily pranayama practice, I feel fearless, calm, free and fairly detached. After my daily pranayama practice, I feel fearless, calm, free, and detached. I aspire to infuse Still with the same spirit—grounded in service, built on the foundation of yoga philosophy, which emphasizes action over outcome. As someone who has struggled with consistency too, I want to build the world's best product so that everyone can build a consistent breathwork and meditation habit. For those wanting to delve deeper, here’s a blog article with the full story.
